Can you believe that
Thanksgiving Day is just around the corner? On a day that is built on a family
tradition, what is the most memorable Thanksgiving tradition your family
celebrates? For many, it’s the golden-brown turkey and stuffing, the delicious
pumpkin pie, the best day for football, or simply spending time with your
family and friends. At The Forest, we started a new tradition seven years ago
to create an event that unites the members, residents, and their guests. Our
SWFL country club is more than our pristine golf courses. Our mission is to
develop a strong and welcoming community for you to be a part of, on or off the
courses. By joining our Turkey Trot, you can get a jump-start on this eventful
day by walking, trotting, or running with your family and friends, not to
mention being able to burn more calories for that second or third helping you
always debate on getting.
In the Beginning…
We may commonly assume
that the first footrace in America would have been the Boston Marathon in 1897,
but was actually the Buffalo Turkey Trot in New York in 1896. Now, 14,000
participants often wear Thanksgiving-themed costumes as they run a five-mile
course. We offer The Forest Country Club’s 40th Anniversary Themed
commemorative t-shirts for this years run. For many, the race is just being
alongside the people that mean the most to you for the holidays.
Go the Distance
Did you know that there
are Turkey Triathlons, one of which being in California called the Turkey Tri
& Pumpkin Pie? It features a ½ mile swim, 14-mile bike, and 4.5-mile run.
Turkey Triathlons are the ultimate way to give
you a calorie deficit before heading to the Thanksgiving table. For those of
you who are just starting footraces or this Thanksgiving tradition, we hold our
annual Turkey Trot with three options: the one-mile walk, the 2.5 mile, or
3.65-mile routes. Our members never shy away from a pleasant walk here in our
beautiful Southwest Florida country club.
Create
a New Tradition
With the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving Day,
it may be hard to enjoy some of the moments and traditions you have built over
the generations. Our Turkey Trot is a great way to reconnect with visiting
family as any of the three routes give you enough time to chat and laugh with
your family and friends. Also, an average American consumes 4,500 calories on
Thanksgiving Day, including sneaking a few bites of stuffing or maybe
grabbing a homemade roll before anyone sees. If you run for thirty minutes, you
burn 300 hundred calories plus reduce your stress levels because exercise is
nature’s mood enhancer and stress relief. If running isn’t your thing, a round
of golf can burn those calories too! For every 30 minutes of golf, you burn
between 100 and 300 calories!
Our Turkey Trot isn’t just for members, it’s
open to your families too, and a tired kid is a well-behaved kid. Go ahead and
wake them up and then come to our Turkey Trot and tire them out to give you the
chance to set the table this year. Not to mention, when you build this family
tradition with us, you create lasting memories. You can look back at the
progression over the years of each Forest Turkey Trot and wear matching
outfits, how often does that happen?
This is the year to create a new family
tradition on Thanksgiving Day! Get your heart racing and those calories
burning, so all you have to do the rest of the day is eat, relax, and be happy
in The Forest. |
